Innovation Program for Student Achievement

Innovation Program for Student Achievement

IPSA began as an expansion of the proven Leader in Me program (based on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) that was already in place at DCS elementary schools. This initiative combines LIM processes with a two year teacher training period that includes the following: math, reading, data analysis and organizational effectiveness. By putting in place leadership skills training and professional development, this program increases student achievement overall, with emphasis on math and literacy skills.

How We Measure Results

Year-end scores are compared to initial assessments and tests, providing clear results of increased achievement.

Schools Affected

Five elementary schools currently have the Innovation Program for Student Achievement in place: Austinville, Banks-Caddell, Chestnut Grove, Somerville Road, and Woodmeade. Because of its proven success, Decatur City Schools plans to implement IPSA at all 12 elementary schools as funding becomes available.
