College and Career Readiness

In Decatur, there is high demand for skilled trades, as some of the top employers in our county are manufacturing industries. In fact, according to the Morgan County Economic Development Association, “ Morgan County, Alabama, is home to 144 diverse industries including 12 Fortune 500 Companies. Consistently, Morgan County has led the State of Alabama in capital investment of new and expanding industries.” The market is ready for our students, and it is our responsibility to prepare them. Increasing the number of college and career ready graduates is a top priority.

Cyber Security Academy

“Cyber security at the Career Academies of Decatur (CAD) helped me to understand both the technologies, systems, and protocols needed to make a secure system. The instruction given in this class helped me to not only understand what makes secure software and hardware, but it also helped me understand what a viable cyber security policy looks like in a workplace. I saw this immediately play into my future in both making software secure in internships and in my computer networks class in college, as the preparation I had at CAD allowed that class to be a simple review of material I learned in high school. To top that off, I even got a CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification, which is something I still mention on my resume.”
